This work will run a series of focus groups to understand the views of young people with complications of obesity around using technology to support their journey within the Complications from Excess Weight (CEW) service. This study aims to collate data on young people’s perceptions and preferences regarding the role and usability of technology designed to support behavioural change.

This project aims to improve Healthy Futures CEW clinic service provision across England by developing a cost-effective evidence-based intervention to support adolescents with health change behaviour in an easily accessible way which works for them.

This project is led by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and University of East Anglia.

The Technology to Support Change (TOSCA) project was awarded a grant by UEA Health and Social Care Partners in 2022 to run a series of focus groups aimed at understanding the views of young people with complications of obesity around technology to support their journey within the Complications from Excessive Weight (CEW) service.

The CEW clinic patients (aged 10-16 years) and their adult family members took part in focus groups and design workshops.

These groups explored young people’s health priorities, the barriers and facilitators of health behavioural change and co-designed ways in which technology could be used to support young people in overcoming these barriers to achieve their health goals.
