Multimorbidity, often associated with ageing, loss of confidence, well-being and independence, leads to increasing disability. It has a large impact on health outcomes, increased risk of mortality and increases use of health and social care services. It is crucial to detect these individuals early and to delay where possible. Where multimorbidity is confirmed, interventions are necessary to reduce or prevent unnecessary hospital admissions or readmission and poor health outcomes.

We are carrying out research to explore and understand multimorbidity better and how using routine NHS data, health and social care service innovation and interventions may benefit people with multimorbidity and their carers.

We are undertaking care home research looking at supporting residents and staff.

We design and carry out studies using large integrated datasets to understand and address problems that face patients who have multimorbidity and services that deal with multimorbidity across health and social care. We will explore and develop service innovation in East Anglia and relevant to the national context.

We will explore and develop interventions to help people who have multimorbidity to maintain active, safe and healthy independence.

We are interested in the use the technology to improve independence for people and also enhance the work of health and social care staff.
