NHS Using Artificial Intelligence to Provide Patients with Better Support

The NHS is using Artificial Intelligence to predict patients who could be at greater risk of becoming frequent users of emergency services so they can receive the care they need earlier.

This article, published on the NHS website on the 12th December 2024, highlights over 360,000 patients attend Accident & Emergency (A&E) more than five times each year, and using data-powered initiatives to identify them, NHS teams are proactively reaching out to patients with proactive support before they enter an emergency room.

High Intensity Use (HIU) services use the latest data to identify regular attendees in their area and attempts to resolve the reasons that patients are coming forward for care, which is often associated with poverty and social isolation.

Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust, one of our Associate Partners, has also established a HIU service, which worked closely with over 400 frequent attendees to A&E.
