CELDA Project Hosts Online Event for Social Work Week

On Friday 22nd March, the CELDA project team hosted their online event; Care Experience Improvements for people with a Learning Disability and / or Autism.

The session aimed to provide an overview of the recent study undertaken in Norfolk County Council.

The CELDA study investigated the poor care received by people with learning disabilities and/or Autism in residential care homes, as well as the staff caring for them.

Across Norfolk, there has been several traumatic home closures with individuals receiving what has been classed as “inhumane treatment”, as well as other alleged abuse taking place. The staff managing these closures have had to support individuals in the care home environments who have been victims of poor care or have experienced abuse of some form.

Within the study, Project Lead Victoria Bunting and Research Associate Farah-Leila Mughal undertook a systematic literature review of CQC reports of 10 recent care home closures to quip staff better to support care providers in improving the quality of care for people with a learning disability and/or Autism.
