Future Paget: James Paget University Hospital Shares Vision for New Hospital

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has shared its bold new vision for a new hospital to be built on the same site as the current hospital.

Dubbed “Future Paget”, the vision for the new hospital will see a new 10-storey building built on land purchased by the hospital.

In January, the Government confirmed that the James Paget University Hospital will be rebuilt, with work expected to begin between 2027 and 2028.

The new hospital will be larger than the existing one, and will have around 80 more beds and new improved space standards, including all wards having single en-suite bedrooms in line with international standards of care.

Development will be built next to the existing facility which will remain open during its construction and retains many of the non-RAAC buildings currently operating on the existing site, and incorporates their use in the planning for a new hospital.

This includes:

• The Community Diagnostics Centre
• The James Paget Orthopaedic Centre
• Oulton Suite Community Diagnostics Centre, and the
• Concept Ward

The plans will also include new access points and a helipad.
